The Latin American Congress on Solid State Dosimetry and Radiation Measurements, held for the first time in 2021 in a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was conceived to establish a scientific forum focused on the specificities and demands of the Latin American Solid-State Dosimetry community, with an emphasis on regional integration and on expanding the international visibility of scientific production developed in the region.
In its second edition, the Second Latin-American Congress on Solid State Dosimetry and Radiation Measurements – 2nd LASSD 2026 – will continue this trajectory by expanding opportunities for scientific exchange and the training of qualified personnel, with a focus on consolidating a regular scientific forum of Latin American scope. It will offer an opportunity to discuss advances in solid-state dosimetry and radiation measurements, areas characterized by a strong interface among physical fundamentals, technological development, and applications in health, the environment, industry, and security. The event will be held in person in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, from December 1st to 4th, 2026.
Specifically, the 2nd LASSD 2026 will be a tribute to the memory of Professors Linda Caldas and Helen Jamil Khoury, who had outstanding national and international scientific careers in solid-state dosimetry and actively contributed to the consolidation of the scientific community associated with the Brazilian Society of Solid-State Dosimetry (SBDeS). The tribute recognizes their contributions to training human resources, advancing the field’s scientific development, and strengthening international cooperation, reinforcing the event’s institutional commitment to valuing scientific excellence.
During the event, there will also be a nuclear technology exhibition, where national and international exhibitors who sponsor the event will showcase their equipment and/or services to participants in the solid-state dosimetry community.
The 2nd LASSD 2026 is promoted by the SBDeS in partnership with the Department of Nuclear Energy of the Federal University of Pernambuco (DEN-UFPE), and also has the support of the Institute of Energy and Nuclear Research, IPEN-CNEN, and the University of São Paulo, USP, endorsing the role of Brazil as a regional articulator in the field of solid-state dosimetry.
The papers and abstracts submitted to the event will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee. Once accepted and presented, they will be eligible for publication in a special volume of the Journal of Applied Radiation and Isotopes (JARI) and will undergo the journal’s regular peer review process.
The Organizing Committee of the 2nd LASSD 2026 believes that participants will have a fruitful meeting and enjoy the beautiful and welcoming city of Recife.
